Whole Cloth Class with Joyce Grafe

WHOLE CLOTH CLASS IN 3 SESSIONS
Ever want to make a whole cloth quilt but don’t know where to start? In this class you will learn how to approach the task of creating a free motion whole cloth quilt, approximately 38” square, and build confidence in your skills. You must either be proficient with ruler work or good at tracing lines for the framework. Know your machine well (domestic or long arm) and be comfortable with swirls and a basic stipple. This project will be done in three sessions with one week in between each class and you will be expected to do your homework.
Class One will be for marking the framework on the quilt top and discussing design layout. We will also go over thread weights and uses with samples to touch and see up close.
The second class will be focused on the designs inside the frames. You will be shown how to break down the elements, draw them out, and then how to get them done in one fell swoop. If feathers are a difficulty there will be other designs available as an alternative.
Class three will be for the backfills and where to start filling. We will also talk about squaring up the finished project and any other questions you may have.
