Needlepoint Basics with Jan Shanahan

This handwork is fast becoming a new favorite art form with both a traditional and contemporary “tone” depending on the design, colors, stitches the student uses.
The one-day workshop introduces you to needlepoint stitches and the basics of working/painting your own design.
A sampler of 10-12 stitches will be taught to learn creative stitches and there will be time to paint a small design for you to make on your own. This includes learning how to draw and paint your canvas.
Learn the basics of needlepoint and right types of canvas to use as your foundation piece, what kinds of yarns/threads work best with each canvas type. We will begin with a marked canvas and then continue to learn stitch techniques and additional textured stitches that embellish your design.
The finished product can be made into a small pillow or blocked and placed in a frame. A relaxing day—doing needlepoint is very calming, but addictive –so prepare to have a wonderful day!
A $10 miscellaneous supply charge is included in the class fee
